Sense & Nonsense
A range of common fallacies and misunderstandings commonly found in our discussions and explanations about politics and economics.
- Fallacies of Composition/Combination.
Both of these terms refers to the same phenomena. This error of thinking is generally treated as if it was a specific identifiable fallacy which can lead to the same false conclusion. More correctly, it refers to a category of closely related (and often unrecognised) errors of thinking. These all share a largely unnoticed confusion between single identities and multiple combinations, compositions or groups. This lack of distinction misleads us in a lot of discussions of economics, and also in wider social issues.
